FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What people ask most often before trying Gilgamesh.

I write films: what does Gilgamesh do for me?

Your screenplay and everything that follows from it, together in one project: characters, locations, notes, treatment. You write in Fountain or import your text. You send versions to read and get comments on the text itself.

I produce films: what does Gilgamesh do for me?

Your writers send you their drafts from Gilgamesh. You read, annotate and compare them with a free account, opened from the link you receive, no invitation needed. Their Final Draft, Word or PDF files go in and come out as they were.

How much does it cost?

The alpha is free. You can take an active part in its development by sharing your feedback from the app.

How do I get access?

The alpha is by invitation: leave your address, and your invitation arrives by email as soon as a place opens up.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Gilgamesh runs in the browser, on desktop, tablet and phone. On a phone, the floor plan can be viewed but not edited.

Can I import my screenplay, and get it back?

Yes. Import takes Fountain, PDF, Word and Final Draft; a report shows what will be created before you confirm. The screenplay exports to the same formats, and the whole project to an archive, at any time.

What is Fountain?

A plain-text screenplay format, open and readable anywhere. Gilgamesh uses it for writing, and converts it to Final Draft, Word or PDF.

Who can read my projects?

Nobody, except the recipients of a version you send, and only that version. Your writing is never used to train any model. The server is in France.

What if Gilgamesh shuts down?

Your projects export at any time: Fountain, Word, PDF, Final Draft, or the full archive. So you can keep a complete copy, on your own computer, whenever you like.

Can several people write together?

A project has a single author. You send versions to whoever you choose; your readers comment on the text for free.

Does Gilgamesh do the shooting schedule or the budget?

No: it prepares the film up to the shot list, the breakdown and the floor plan. The schedule, the budget and the call sheets stay with your production tools; we are working on the best export formats to hand over to them without retyping anything.

Is Gilgamesh available in other languages?

This site and the documentation are in English. The app is in French for now: English comes with the beta, German and Spanish with version 1.0. Others will follow on demand, possibly through community translation.
